Lead Service Line Inventory Project

What is the Lead Service Line Inventory Project?

The Tariffville Water Commission is working to comply with federal regulations under the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). The Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR), issued by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), require all public water systems in the United States to develop a comprehensive inventory of water service lines.and to make the results publicly available.

This mandate is designed to protect public health by identifying and addressing potential lead exposure risks in drinking water systems.  As part of this requirement, the Tariffville Water Commission’s goal is to:

  • Identify all service line materials within our water distribution system, including public and private portions.
  • Categorize each service line based on its known or suspected material type (e.g., lead, galvanized requiring replacement, non-lead)
  • Make the results of our findings available to our customers. An updated PDF file listing all customer addresses and the corresponding findings will be posted here (link). This file will be updated regularly as new information becomes available.

Help us determine your service line material.

What is a service line?
A service line is the pipe that runs underground from the water main in the street directly into your home. This pipe can be copper, galvanized steel, lead, plastic or another material.

There are 2 ways in which you can help the TWC determine your water service line material.

Option 1

A representative from the Tariffville Water Commission can perform the inspection. The identification of the water service line typically takes about 10 minutes to complete.

For safety reasons, please ensure there is a clear pathway and an unobstructed area where the inspection will be conducted.

Option 2

Self-Identification

Property owners may self-identify their service line material by following these guidelines. The submission form must be completed, and photos can be uploaded directly using the “Attach Photos” button on the form.
